After owning an Audi it was the most bland car I have ever owned lol granted it was the same shape as the s3 but just the ko3 turbo one, it never felt connected to the road as such ie i felt too cut off from the driving enjoyment lol but then again a few good choice of mods good easy have sorted it. Pure and simple ?? Is do u need a 3 door haldex or front wheel drive 5 door.

Mods yes but way too many to stick in this little box

Ive owned both, and although the S3 is a better all-round package, the steering isn't as precise, hence why I'm on my 3rd MKV Golf.  However there are pro's and cons with each, you decide!  The ED30 is an awesome drive, but wet roads make a big difference.

My car has been really frustrating in this wet weather - but it does make you learn to drive it more.

I was looking at that S3 last night, with nothing in mind, just like the S3 and a grey one looks

both cars look as if they have been played with, as Rich points out the lights are wrong on the Ed, the S3 however in thed pic below seems to have a Miltek fitted, or at least an aftermarket exhaust (type not clear)  the tips are similar to my Milly.

I had a short trip in Toms S3, and must say it felt better screwed together than my Ed, I think that was down to the soundproofing giving a quieter ride.  I do like the S3, and have always hankered after one, however I think I won't be changing any time soon, the Ed is a great all round car for me.

Now if I roll back the clock to 18Months ago.......................  I think the S3 would be the one, especially in Grey,  That is my opinion, and we are all different, and hanker after differing goals.

Go for the S3 .... looks a good one if you don't mind the mods (which appear good ones) and 4wd ready for the winter ..... Edition 30 is great but not in wet or slippery conditions !

Thought now would be as good a time as any to become a pic whore, and show off my old S3;

Mine was Oettinger stage II, and quite fast......

The Golf is quite highly priced, sold mine for £16,600...same spec and year albeit 3 doors.

I'm liking the idea of the S3 myself when im back in a position to buy one...cant comment on how they compare to each other though.

Hope you are looking after them?

O yes, was thinking of changing to something lighter, but they suit the car so well, I'm not gonna bother

If you can afford the extra £2k then I say the S3, in fact that price sounds pretty good really.

All the things you may eventually do to the Ed30 are already on the S3, it will cost less in the long run and less hassle as your not having to source and fit them.  That 'if' you did mod the Ed30 that little bit more than a remap - which is rude not too

The S3 had a miltek on but he has removed it for a separate sale, was a full de-cat system to which he said made a huge difference in performance.
Unfortunately i only have second chance at the s3, someone is going to see it in the morning.

On the edition 30, that is a good spot with the lights and to be honest has scared me off it a bit, why would you replace the lights unless it has had front end damage ???

With a bit of luck the s3 will still be available tomorrow night although i doubt it !

The lights could have been changed to fit in with the colour of the rest of the car, but I'd agree that it would be a strange modification to make.
