Best fascia panel and harness?
« on: March 26, 2014, 06:37:39 am »
Hi guys I'm looking to change my cd for an aftermarket double din.

Is there a consensus as to which is the best looking fascia panel, and what ISO harness I need (no mfsw)? I looked on the autoleads Site but the ref number if gave me related to a bmw harness when I popped to halfords on Monday...?

Might want to have a look at this thread for ideas on the fascias bud - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,66489.0.html

For the cable you prob need the Quad lock cable and Aerial adapter so you can connect it to the aftermarket stereo.

Thanks I'll order the harness on the weekend.

With the fascia do I need a metal cage as well or will the head unit cage secure to the dash? If so I can just get away with buying the plastic surround.

Planning on vinyl wrapping the fascia and dash panel so the colour is the same.

Cheers,
Pete.

For best fitment you prob will need the cage that comes along with the fascia rather than with the stereo. The cage that comes with the fascia would have all the mounting points and tabs prepped up so it fits flush to the centre console. It was certainly the case with the Connects2 CT23VW07 fascia kit in my car, this is mine with hydrodipped carbon coating.

With the stereo cage you most likely would end up with a "double bezel" look on the car which doesn't look as clean and fits as flush in my opinion.

That looks great. I'm thinking about a similar look in piano or satin black unless the surround matches perfectly. Looking to fit an amp in the car too, but I'm not sure where. I've seen installs under seats but looking at mine I'm not sure if it will mess up the height adjustment. No storage trays but still doesn't look like very much room.
