The only problem I see with these is the oem maf pipe is oval and the maf is perfectly centred. The aftermarket intakes all use round pipes.

So does the Carbonni give any gains on stage 2+?? Is it for looks only?

Or should I opt for a VWR item.......any oppinions on noise for these?

I want good gains to compliment stage 2+ but without it being an unsociable car for everyday usage.

Maybe on the too do list: APR Stage 2+, KW Clubsports, Brakes, Diff.

^^^^ Carbonio is a useless piece of C/F bling, forget that as it serves no purpose.

The VWR (same as APR and newer ITG ones, rebranded IIRC) are the closed cannister ones, some say they are a little quieter, never tried a cannister one myself. Open filter would allow more air in, its all about the flow. My stage 2+ Eddy is more than happy with the REVO one, either that or the EVOMS IMHO.

Carbonio + freeflow filter added about 7hp to a stage 1 Leon Cupra. So maybe it gives about 5hp to k03 GTI. On the bonus side however, since it uses the factory MAF pipe, driveability is unaffected.

Ordered a Revo ceramic intake should be with me tomorrow, any ideas how to tell the difference between the powder coated and ceramic model?

Thanks!

Fitted the revo and WHOOOOSSHHHHH DISHHHHHHHH!

Haha sounds like it's trying to suck up the wildlife from the bushes as I go past! I'm a bit dissapointed as I've lost low end torque, once I get a stage 1 or stage 2 map with a milltek TBE will that low down torque be restored or be better than standard?

Thanks :driver:

You'll always lose some low end torque with a cai...

Will I gain this low end torque back once mapped?

Thanks

I wouldn't dwell on it,once the map is on it'll be fine, providing its a decent trusted one that is.

Glad you created this thread.

I am looking at possibly going stage 2+. Is the OE box with a decent panel filter any good or will it seriously compromise power on stage2 +.

Having had stage 2+ with an intake then back to oe with k&n panel and then paper. I  can say the car felt best with the oe plus paper filter. I lost low end torque with the intake and the k&n gave me boost fluctuations. I wanted a fast road car so the oe plus paper gave me the best results. On tests the best panel filter showed a  0.90% pressure drop than paper, so very little difference in flow.

The revo is a good intake but these are not cold air intakes in the truest sense as they are not sealed from the warm engine air. The revo has a pipercross filter on the end so is a good flowing and filtering air filter.

Interesting to read about the standard intake,I would have had it dyno'd before and after but fitting isn't a five minute job.

My Revo Induction is trying its best to be a cold air intake

Is the revo intake supposed to rub on the heatshield? Mines rubbed the black coating off!

I agree with you that there are good points with the original filter.. I had ITG but went back to carbonio style intake (with pipercross panel) because of driveability issues (and noise..). I spend a lot of time rolling the maf section to different angles because I had rich running engine and lost boost at low revs. It did help and it was almost bearable in the end. Of course ITG produced more power at the top, but it didnt "feel" as good in daily driving conditions.
