Few RNS510 Questions
« on: March 28, 2014, 01:47:04 pm »
Mates got a Mk5 R32, factory fitted RNS510, not sure which version but I don't think it's the C LED version! Anyway Basically I was wondering how he finds out his firmware and what's the latest version he can upgrade too, how does he upgrade and any download links?

Also whats the latest map version that works best with that firmware?

Cheers chaps!
Simon

Firmware and how far you can go is dependant on hardware. Pull the unit and look at the label to find the hardware and decide on a firmware upgrade according to that.  Maps shouldn't be an issue with any firmware as I had the latest maps (V10) on an A revision unit.

If it's had a firmware update at some point then that can and will change the hardware notification in the settings menu. You can check the hardware with VCDS or by the menu system, but if it's been updated previously then it'll report incorrectly. Upgrading the firmware based on software reported settings could brick your unit, so caution.

The only sure fire way is to remove it and read the label.

Are you sure it's a rns510 as I thought the mk5 never had that model offered as an optional extra.

from 57 onward the 510 was an option after they dropped the mfd2
Loads of extra's and retro fits.
