I'm in exactly the same boat here.... I want to change my gti for a Ed30 but the prices are silly high at the minute and i could never find the same really high specked one like my gti is.. I'm wondering just to ko4 it and keep it.... I'm already around 280bhp and 335 lbft ft. A k03 is almost maxed out now where as with a k04 it will obviously do more.... But then you have to equate the cost of a clutch as it will not take the extra power very well at all.

depends on what you want to spend? you wont get a lower mileage ed30 for the same price as what it would cost to k04 yours.. but if your willing to spend that bit more and get lower miles and stronger engine then i would say that would be the way to go

What im trying to ask him is,

Why does he want a bigger, K04 turbo?
Is he thinking of going stage 3?

stop making arguements. ta  :happy2:

wasn't telling him to do anything... I was asking him why, out of curiosity.......

how powerful is a stage 3 normal GTI that has k04 upgrade?

Is it the same/similar to a ED30 at stage 2+?

Stage 3 GTI will make the same power as a 2+ Ed30, but will hold the power longer at the top end due to the compression ratio  :happy2:

I know they'll be the same power, that was the point I was trying to make

I kinda know what it means, what I don't understand is how it'll be better on the stage 3 gti?

Theyre both 2.0, both K04, I know there will be one or two slight differences, but don't get how the stage 3 GTI will be better than the stage 2+ ED30?

Because the BWA/AXX engines have higher compression ratio it allows them to hold onto the power longer in the rev range. Niki from R-Tech posted summit about it on the forum once. It's clear from Dyno graphs too  :happy2:

In reply to the OP, you'll be fine with that mileage on a K04. I'm currently at 127k with a potent map and no issues but you'll need a clutch.
Mk2 Octavia vRS with K04 conversion, 3"TBE & Decat, APR HPFP, BDM Intake, S3 I/C, Sachs clutch & Unicorn custom map, S3 brakes, AP coilovers, THS mounts.

Sell the GTI and get yourself an Edition 30.

- 230bhp Engine which is more like a detuned S3 engine with the K04 turbocharger and other bits
- 18" BBS Pescara Alloys as standard (GTi has 17" Monzas as standard)
- Half Leather seats which are heated and have electric lumbar support
- All the lower skirts & bumpers around the Edition 30 are colour coded (looks better in my IMHO)
- Smoked Rear Light Lens (same as the R32)
- Red stitching on the seats, mats, steering wheel & gear knob plus Edition 30 badges

280-300bhp easily obtainable with the right mapping (Revo, R-Tech or APR) :happy2:

Depends on the OPs situation tho, does he owe money on his car on finance? What else has he done to the car?

Pointless changing if he's already done quite a few mods for it and will ate a hit on trading the car in.

I think im going to K04 mine in the next couple of months, there's no point getting an Ed30 for me as mine has been modified so much.

Plus I can't stand the tartan  :P
