front grille options
« on: March 27, 2014, 06:29:37 pm »
My front grille is starting to show its age pretty badly, would like to swap for a new OEM one but can't find the part number on the t'tnets - does anyone have it? Alternatively what's the general consensus on non-oem fit? I guess a third option would be to take it off an respray it myself but I have a feeling that it won't wear too well on UK roads.

Thanks for that, did remember do a google with that part number but because of the (I presume) US designation I can't seem to find a genuine euro supplier

3M vinyl wrap is a cheaper and safer option than painting that you can still do yourself.
It is much easier to work with than many might expect, plus you could go with something a little different. For example, I have just wrapped mine in the carbon effect vinyl and I think it has come out really well.

If the stone chips are really bad, the vinyl will follow them and still show so you may still need to do a bit of smoothing, you just wouldn't need to worry about achieving a good paint and lacquer finish.

I have a spare, smooth, GTI front grille with magnets attached behind to allow for easy application/removal of number plates if anyone is interested? I will put a For Sale advert up tomorrow. PM me if interested.
