Things to check
« on: March 25, 2014, 01:12:34 pm »
I've just purchased my first Mk5, I think she's ok, but I've done the deal so that's it anyway :ashamed:. What should I be looking out for please? I'm not looking to modify the car, I just want her as she was built so it's a matter of checking and dealing with the common faults.
Thanks
Clive

Welcome CEEJAY.

You might want to summarise the extent of the service history and more importantly if it is a GTI or diesel.
2016 Mk7 Golf GTD - Reflex Silver with stuff.

VCDS Hex+Can - Will code for beer!

3 things to check and possibly replace that are often mentioned on here a lot as common faults and are not included in service intervals etc are:

Cam Follower
PVC Valve
and the Diverter Valve.

If you are going to replace them look at replacing with the latest revisions :happy2:

They are cheap to replace especially if you do it yourself. Easy to do even if its your first time and there is plenty of Guide's / How To's on here if you have a search for them.

Update
This is for the GTI's
