Front and Rear Drop links
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:31:00 pm »
I think my front and rear drop links needs replacing... should I get replacement OEM parts?  Or should I get some after market ones...

Looking for suggestions, thanks!

It's just the occasional "knock" as if something is not properly tight or secure... tends to happen when going over road humps, etc.

I'm sitting in the TTShop right now as I type this post.

No one can figure out where the noise is coming from.  We have unbolted the drop links, ARB, and driven the car.

The occasional "clunk" still happens - especially when distributing weight at the rear when turning from one side to the other.  Doesn't happen all the time...but when it does... it's pronounced.

Any other suggestions...I'm out of ideas and hacked off!  :sad1:

Oohh strange - topmounts? The ARB moving sideways and knocking on the stops?

Probably one of those things that looks and feels perfectly fine until a load of weight goes on it.
Sideways yo!

....

Check the wishbone bushes, especially the fronts. They are normally out of sight so you'll have to put her on a ramp and even possibly remove them to inspect.

if i could hear it i might have a clue but without sitting in the car i can only guess    as i have had all types of knock from the rear of my golf and its was droplinks and arb bushes so check all the bolts are tight on the rear end like shocks and all the other bolts.

I don't want this to be premature...but I think we've cracked it!

Found a single bolt that had worked it's way loose on the rear right holding the shock.

I sense we might be getting there - I'll keep you posted...

Thank you all for your suggestions and pastoral support.   :happy2:

MATT ED30 - should I change the drop links in any case... of just not bother if the issue is resolved?

Problem solved - whey hey!  :pomppomp:

BSH drop links arrived Friday... they look tasty.  Will get these installed when I get the brakes fitted!
