Top mount replacement
« on: March 29, 2014, 12:55:37 pm »
Hi all, I now have a bilstein b12 kit to go in as I didn't want to go down the coilover route. I've been told to replace top mounts front and rear and new rear bump stops. I can find bump stops for £6 each which is fine but not sure what to replace on the top mounts ? Is it easier and better to replace full bolt in unit or just the bearings with a new fitting kit ? Cheers davey

Whilst you've got the strut out it's probably best to replace the whole top mount, not just the bearing. Especially as the stiffer springs will be putting more pressure on them. Kind of like taking a gearbox out IMO, you always replace the clutch!

Also saves on getting a spring compressor to remove your old top mount, meaning you can just unbolt your old strut and put it to one side in one piece.

Hi mate,
Give TPS a ring for a price on the TTRS front top mount items, it's been a while since I fitted mine.

The link you've provided appears to show the mk5's stock bits. If you have noisy/worn front mounts and/or rear mounts that knock, it's ideal.

If you're just after a more dependable front end, the TTRS bits help.

Thanks.

Cheers for the advice, is it just the mount itself that's upgraded on the ttrs setup? I'm fitting a set of bilstein b8 dampers with h&r springs so want to just revamp all the suspension

Does a ttrs kit the same style as in the link fit or is it a golf kit I need but just swap the top mounts for ttrs ones?

Cheers
