Reversing light & rear fog light failure
« on: March 29, 2014, 02:27:00 pm »
I had the dash board symbol on start up this morning with the 2 message texts for the 2 bulbs failed. I've got 2 new bulbs and changed them but upon start up I got the same symbol/message and checked the lights are actually not working. I've dived into the hand book which states a fuse under the bonnet for the fog but no mention of the reversing light fuse. Anybody any info plus isn't it strange for these to go together. Everything else works.

I had a similar problem... Does the boot still open?

Yeah, I had this too. If boot wont open and rear wiper doesn't work as well then its that broken wire.

Thanks both, the boot does still open but the wiper gave up (or wouldn't stop!) so pulled the fuse. I've had a further look and found the 2 wiring gaiters have been spliced and 1 wire on each side has been cut and crimped. I've left the rubber boots open so I can have another look tomorrow.

I got the electrician at work to have a quick look today. Somebody has been there previously with the electrical tape still intact. Removal revealed the obvious cut to the rubber boot and a red & yellow wires were crimped together but badly on both sides. To get better access I scalpled the cut a bit more on the left hand boot which showed a brown wire and 3 small white wires broken and another ready to go. All the wires were recrimped adding a bit of extra wire to cope with the opening/closing. All the lights now work but the wiper is still fubard, so fuse removed again UFN.
