Few questions about the rns510
« on: March 30, 2014, 06:24:59 pm »
Hey everyone, I've only had my mkv golf a few weeks and am starting to get to grips with the stereo but I have a few questions.

Firstly I have a 6 cd changer in the arm rest and an aux in socket, to link my iPhone do I just need the mdi cable for the glove box or are there any adapters I will need?

How do I go about updating maps etc? I've searched online and got a little lost in all the information.

The HDD should be 30gb right? Why have I only got 13 gb free but no music on it, do the maps really take up 17gb?

Finally I'd like the phone and blue tooth to work, what is needed for this? Does anyone have a link etc?

Thanks

Berto

The RNS510 will accept phone connections by Bluetooth, but you need a Bluetooth module to make it work. Cost for these is into the hundreds I'm afraid.

For the iphone I think it's either the CD changer or the MDI unit, not both, as they both use the same port on the rear of the head unit (willing to be corrected on this one...).

Hard disc is partitioned into either two or three partitions and might've been updated to change the amount of available space for each partition. The maps will take up one partition irrespective of map size as the partiton will be sized to hold future updates etc. It doesn't use just enough space for the maps and the rest for music if you see what I mean.

For map updates (just doing mine as we speak) it's not something I'm about to discuss on the forum really as the maps are supposed to be bought. Lets just say they can be found if you look for rns510 map updates V10.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

I will correct you mate :-) the CD changer and mdi can indeed be installed together,  as he's already said he has CD plus auxiliary,  so the mdi loops through the auxiliary in, as I had same issue.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

I also have the cd changer and Aux input, but I was told I couldn't have the MDI as well. Maybe I was misinformed.

So the aux in and mdi use the same plug basically? I don't use the aux in so I'd happily loose that for the mdi

You don't loose it as such, with no USB or iPod connected to mdi my aux loops through it to rns but if anything is connected to mdi then the aux in the centre console won't work
