Windscreen Replaced
« on: October 10, 2009, 07:58:47 pm »
Picked up a big stone chip on the windscreen early this week.  Credit to the guy from AutoGlass - installation was faultless.  Photos from this morning showing the saga unfolding...

Wow, that is the one thing I dread having to get replaced on my car. Did he refit the sensor correctly?
Without traction power is nothing!

Did they use a genuine VW part or an Autoglass branded one?

I assume so...the rain sensor is in the windscreen and has an attachment for the rear view mirror.  The fitter did spray water on the screen to check the wipers kick in.

The screen is by a company called "Shatterprufe".  It's also has a blue tint.

Insurers would not cover the cost of genuine OEM glass. Bit of a bummer, but the results look no different than the original one - apart from the VW logo is missing on the glass.

I bet you using the camera to take pics made sure he kept on top of his game. I recall another forumite having a bad result from autoglass.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

The Autoglass guy was a sound bloke... as I got talking to him it turned out he was a keen modder.  A mini fanatic - built three separate minis from scratch.  One with a Kawasaki bike engine, one with a Civic Type R engine, and his current project using an uprated mini engine.
