Update
In the end i decided to use a rattle can which took longer than i thought to get a half decent finish but it looked goo enough. Initially i used 2 coasts of filler primer and 5 coats of paint then 2 coats of lacquer but found the finish to be very matte so rubbed the lacquer back and added a couple of coats of paint but this caused a reaction so i had to rub it back and respray.
The end result looks ok but i just can't get a high gloss finish
This is the only photo i took, in hindsight i should have taken more but the weather was against me.
So after 3 weeks and nearly 900 miles the black paint is already showing significant stone chip damage to the point where i'm considering giving plastidip a shot as i don't feel rattle can paint is strong/flexible enough for the job.
