S3 brakes on GT TDI - increases pedal travel
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:30:25 pm »
Hi guys,

Need a bit of help, I've just had the front brake setup from an 8P S3 fitted onto our Mk5 Golf GT TDI. Everything bolted on ok and they're working although the pedal travel has increased quite a bit. If you pump the brake pedal once the initial bite comes in with less travel; this suggests that the larger calipers are now mis-matched with the standard master cylinder/brake booster?

Please can someone advise the best course of action to finish off this upgrade nicely i.e. what parts do I need to source and fit to get everything working perfectly.

Thanks in advance!

I'd be trying a re bleed of the system using the correct method via VCDS before lashing out money on a new master cylinder, driven a GT TDi with the S3 kit and it felt every bit as good as the one on my GTi  :happy2:

It had no similar effect on my old 1.9.
Pretty sure the master cylinders are all the same as well
I would change the fluid and pressure bleed it

Ok thanks guys. The disks and pads weren't brand new so I'll give it a week to settle down before looking at re-bleeding the system.
