I've implemented these mods on mine and I don't regret the expense at all. I get bored with generic or sensible cars (diesels etc) and end up selling them on thus incurring losses.
I've had some of the best fun in mine in wet weather. LSD brings it alive on roads in these conditions. As for track, well it's in another league now.
I've had it for 2.5 years now and still can't imagine what I'd buy in its place.

The two attitudes to car ownership (modify and enjoy & don't modify you'll lose money) can't coexist for one person. You are one or the other. Nothing wrong with either but be sure that which ever you are cars will lose money. Some will happily spend £25k on a car then sell it 3 years later for £17k and not worry about the £8k+ that just disappeared. No rules for this, it's entirely personal. Do whatever rewards you most.  :driver:

Does the LSD help in the wet??

I could wax lyrical about this, but the short answer is yes.

Definitely, 5-10k cars are the one... full dealership services, still in warranty and arguably the biggest hit of depreciation gone

Danza's rule of modding - never do anything you can't undo. I've always stripped and punted a stock car and the bits separate.

Is it going to feel like £10k well invested? Or just your Golf, but faster?? Not money well spent IMO.

I know people love modding to the extreme and seeing how far they can push things, fair play, it's their money. I'm firmly in the camp of 'if you want a fast car, then first buy a fast car'.

This is my approach. You can pour £10k into a GTI and at the end of the day, it's still a golf GTI, but faster & sharper.

I like to do mods which give the best bang for buck. Eg: panel filter, pre-cat delete, engine mount insert, remap, Superpro wishbone/ console bushes, lowering springs, R32 brakes and decent tyres

That lot gives a boost in all areas (power, handling, feel, sound & braking) without breaking the bank  :happy2:

You can spend £700 on your car and get a big smile, spend £10k and still only get a big smile. The novelty wears off eventually regardless. . . .

You get to the point where you end up spending hundreds of pounds just to get a small performance increase. As Hurdy says: the law of diminishing returns (not that it stops him )

ETTO at the end of the day

Each to their own I suppose and I agree it's just a Golf.....luckily mine was mapped....I put Poly bushes on rear and the Clubsports and WALK which I may sell seperately on here if anyone is interested.
The KW's have only done 4k if that and are approx 6 months old.
I can also sell my Kenwood DNX DAB radio /Sat Nav/ MP3 player......latest VW factory unit.

I went and had a look at this down the road from me:

Absolutely stunning low mileage RS4 with low miles.....a lovely example.....maybe a bit overpriced but with only 35k on the clock they are difficult to find like this. Sounds wonderful  with the full Miltek system......didn't drive it.....I expect it will feel slower than the Eddy but the noise...unbelievable.

Could be a keeper.....could be an APR Supercharger.....no I musn't!!
Pearl Black Edition 30 3 Door. DSG. (3rd Edition 30)
Maybe on the too do list: APR Stage 2+, KW Clubsports, Brakes, Diff.

Love those cars, particularly saloon versions. Routine servicing parts costs (discs, pads etc) a bit scary, for OE at least. That's the thing with a modified Golf, everything is still Golf prices. And mine does 42mpg on a run. Don't usually worry about economy but on a motorway schlep its nice to have.

I really like that era RS4, sure there's faster, but that really doesn't matter. Charismatic, still looks great to this day, wonderfully balanced, that engine - oh that engine...

Sure, the E92 is the better overall car (it's a generation newer), but as a safe investment and something you'll enjoy every time you drive it. The RS4 is the one.
