Cam follower change help please
« on: April 05, 2014, 07:59:05 pm »
Evening all, we've had the Gti a few weeks now and I've decided to go and get a new cam follower from tps for the fuel pump and change it. The problem is I've looked at the how to guide on here and looked at my fuel pump and mine doesn't have the bleed valve on the bottom right corner. It is the older type with the metal pipes rather than a rubber one.

What I'm wanting to know is how do I release the pressure in the pump before I undo the pipes so I don't get fuel all over the place? And it looks a bit tight to get a socket and m8 spline bit past the metal fuel pipes onto the bottom bolt to take it off.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Gates

Just remember not to open the driver's door whilst you have the lines disconnected.

You can pull the fuse and run the engine until cut out. There isn't any real need to do this though.

I didn't do anything other than put a tea towel underneath the pipes when removing. Only the smallest trickle of fuel and the tea towel caught the banjo bolt!
