Remote Central Locking Issue
« on: May 24, 2017, 09:42:26 am »
Hi All,

I'm having a bit of an issue with my remote central locking on my 56 plate GTI and wondered if anyone on here could shed some light.

I noticed the range was a bit naff on the 2 keys when I got the car a few weeks ago, so changed the batteries straight away (using decent duracell ones). The key will lock all the doors on the car by pressing the button, but usually takes several presses, and similarly takes several presses to unlock the drivers door, and then many many presses to unlock the rest of the doors. The boot release button doesn't seem to work at all.

Using the key in the lock I can lock all the doors, and unlock just the drivers door. The button on the door locks and unlocks the doors perfectly.

I've had a look around here and elsewhere for advice, but can't get my head around what exactly is at fault. Im guessing the key as the button inside the car works fine, so it's not the locking modules. Do I need to reprogram the keys to the car or something?

What do you think? Thanks in advance!

I would have thought that if the keys needed reprogrammed/synced then they wouldn't work at all but I'm not sure... Do you have or know of anyone with vcds who could resync the keys? Mind there is a list of forum members with vcds in the vcds section so might be someone close by you.  :happy2:

That selective locking is a complete pain in the ass too and I used VCDS to switch it off as soon as I could.
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Yep, same situation with either key.

My thoughts as well, as the keys are working some of the time they must be programmed to the car. I might have a look at the VCDS register and see if someone wouldn't mind plugging it in... worth it just to turn the selective locking off!
