Why would you use RTV sealant?

You can't do this with RTV.. it's not about sealing it, it's about keeping noise from escaping the vehicle and removal/prevention of rattles. Unless I'm mis understanding how you are doing it.

I have only done the inside of my door (removed the door cards) as that's where most of the rattles come from. When I go to upgrade the speakers I may take the door skins off but it's a lot of effort what I can't see to be any gain.

I'm not using RTV to 'seal' anything - I used a thin wavy bead all over any flat surface, and any other surface likely to be subject to promoting harmonic distortion.  Once set, the RTV beads for a high modulus 'rubber-like' substance - and this creates a far better sound-deadening medium than the likes of dynamat.  I learnt this RTV silicone trick years ago from a mate who used to create custom-built speaker enclosures for nightclubs and mobile DJs!  My GTI just has the factory option MFD2 with the 10 speakers - and it made a massive difference.

Anyway - you cant talk - look at your 'supawrap' loft insulation in your doors!  :P  :jumping:   :booty:

Is this RTV stuff like Sugru when it sets?

If it's not flammable it could be a great way of curing creaks and squeaks. My Vx220 suffers huge rattles as all the trim is alloy and hard plastic, be nice to make it sit better without adding lots of weight!

I can't see how that would do much to be honest.
