Exhaust debox (?)
« on: April 16, 2014, 09:52:36 am »
Hi all

Currently in process of much exterior modifying on my standard tdi. I have got a really pleasing r32 style rear bumper (twin central tailpipes). I am looking at the exhaust mod and bearing in mind I am simply aiming for aesthetics (mpg is my performance!) I noticed on eBay a place in Hayes that basically does a fit (new tail exhaust set up) to any r32 style bumpers - whilst you wait job for about £235.

So I asked if this was basically a new rear silencer box fitted and the response was no, it is an exhaust 'debox'.

I am ltd in knowledge but I try to do my research but this has stumped me - any ideas?

Regardless of that - what do you think is best to purely gain the look (with $ in mind).

Thanks all!

I'm guessing they do away with the rear silencer and have straight through pipes by them saying de-box.

Mine is deboxed. Basically, cut the back box off and weld the Y Pipe on so effectively it has no back box

I had my old 140 tdi 'deboxed' and it did make a little difference to noise. Just nice though, very subtle. Also the car revs a little freer. Click my old Golf build thread in my signature to see a GTI style debox. Or search Woody (or W80ody) on here. He had a tdi with the R32 debox Y pipes. :happy2:

Here's the link to W80ody's R32 TDi Golf (with Y-piece debox).

My Golf had a different set up, shown below:

Thanks chaps really helpful. As long as MOT passable sounds a good idea.
