Brilliant day at Combe.....shame I didn't fit my Inter's as I couldn't be bothered
Will need to evaluate a few things if I keep it.
The Clubsports were superb. Understeer and lack of diff and front end traction wasn't so superb. The Dunlop Sport Max's were good to a certain point until lap 2-3 when heat corrups their grip especially in Quarry where no diff and 300lbs is difficult to modulate. I can go around in 4th gear the whole way around there's so much oomph. I was following Chris Eyre in his Berg Cup MK1 16V running no weight and Inter's and a whole host of other bits...a proper track tool and found out where I was losing my time....in the bends!
Solution would have been diff and tyres as I was continually reeling him on the straights trying to modulate power out of the corners.
Avon Rise was interested easily matching my APR Stage 3 MKIV at Terminal speed on the Rise @ 135+ bigger brakes and more bravery would no doubt see 140
The Clubsports were left at approx 1.25 negative and meduim compression/rebound settings on the rear. Yet again the EBC Yellows were superb on the ickle 312mm set up and Motul Fluid....no problems on stopping her.
Big brakes from my experience means later braking on entry but a big bill to replace pads and rotors later on!!
I expect the Cupra R set up would see a nice gain with a good disc.
Got some great footage and had a good few dices.....kept a newly fettled Kim Collins MTM Turbo'd R32 at bay....chap was most surprised and so was I after I found out what it was! His car had the full brake treatment which looked superb. Massive heat under the bonnet.
Took one of the forum members out for a blast so he could sample APR Stage 2 with RSC....sounded good on track!
So deciding the future of keeping or selling or spending more is my dilema. Older cars are definately soooo much cheaper to run on trackdays if you get a good one that's well set up though.
