How smokey is your mk5? (Petrol cars only, please!)
« on: April 08, 2014, 10:53:58 pm »
Please - no comments from diesel owners, but how smokey is your mk5?

I know the ED30 runs a bit rich, as the carbon on the exhaust and tailgate really shows on mine, and it isn't mapped.

Is this the same on the GTI?

Only asking as I am sometimes surprised by the smoke mine puts out on WOT. Hope it isn't a sign of anything sinister, but it is mostly sooty smoke. It is run on Optimax, so the petrol should be good.

Does the smoking get noticeably worse if remapped?

What mileage on your car and what's your oil consumption like?

Occasionally I get a teensy bit of black smoke when I accelerate hard from low revs but usually it's fine

Mine smokes (blackish) a bit on full chat. Most GTIs do run a bit rich so i think this is to be expected.

I never seemed to get any smoke issues with my Mk5 GTi and I also havent noticed my other halfs Edition30 either. My GTi was mapped and didnt get any smoke then either.

mines the same mate, mapped also. as mentioned above by Leigh200sx once you change the oil it might calm down.
im booked in for a engine flush and new millers 10W40 or 10W50 on the 26th so ill comment on whether it has calmed the smokey-ness down
