think my pcv has gone!
« on: October 12, 2009, 04:00:28 pm »
wasnt happy with the catch can as the car seemed to be slower with it fitted so i have returned it to stock, the power was then good and bad surging, but now the power seems down and its seriosly blowing oil out of the cap! got it booked in at vw in the morning

Surely VW will charge you a fortune to look at this as it's not an OEM part? Who fitted it for you?

Is the oil coming from the cover plate that the can replaces? Maybe a seal is not pushed back correctly

thats what i thought originaly too mate, so i checked all the gasket and the o rings, but iam 90% sure its coming from the cap, could fitting the catch can have made it worse?

How long did you run it with the catch can on?. Was the tap at the bottom closed or left open?. Needs to be wound all the way down to be in the closed position.

I don,t know enough about the closed recirculation system to answer that but if thats whats happenned it could have set off a chain of engine errors leading to your symptons. I,m sure someone with more technical knowledge could shed some light on it.
