Those were the good old days  :driver:

Next to no speed cameras , police in senator 24v cars, racing every day !

It was a glorious era , no ABS , no traction control , cheap petrol .

Non stop road racing in car with 57i induction kits, piper cams, magnex exhausts, bbr star chips ......

This is all before the japanese import revolution,

I don't think it's dying as such, but the recession and other economic contributing factors have definitely had an effect.

The main one being, motoring is the most expensive it's ever been in the short ten years I've been driving.

I know more people than not, some of them good friends, that have traded in their hot hatch or 200hp+ petrols for the equivalent TDI's and taken a step back from the scene purely because they don't feel their single daily vehicle necessarily has a place on the car scene, like their Civic Type-R/Golf GTI/Audi S3 etc... had or still has today (me being one of them!).

Maybe for a lot of people too as we get older and have property/kids and so on, it's inevitable that you move on from the 'scene' but the VW shows I go to are still well attended and supported, just like when I first started going really.

It's probably the same cycle, just seen from different angles.

Fezzy Park cruise, them were the days  :happy2:

Still got the copy of Max Power that me and my Rs Turbo were in at Festival Park when they came down as part of their cruise feature, I also got reported for doing a burnout in an Enterprise escort rental van, oh and knocked the mirror off a Carlton Gsi after overcooking a wheelie on my CBR600 and flipping it! Told you them were the days

I guess times have changed nowadays- the "yoof" of today have so many other entertainment outlets. They roll out of bed and its straight onto facebook before checking which celeb tweeted what. Next, its onto instagram to see who took a selfie and where, before you know it, its lunch so that means posting it on twitter / facebook / snap chat for all to see.
Next, they fire up the PS3/PS4 and drive the best sports car in the world and can mod them to their hearts content. Once the racing is done, its either going out to the trendy places - making sure to announce it on facebook by "checking in" or staying in to watch Britain's got talent / xfactor / the voice and posting a running commentary on facebook / twitter.

oh, having an abundance of porn to suit all tastes on tap seems to effect the car scene as well!

That's the one :happy2:

I was 18YO and drove a Fiesta 1.25 Zetec back then. The 1.0 Saxos didn't stand a chance

I'm 22 and can tell you that's absolutely not what the yoof of today do lol.
apart from one person on my facebook who does updates to top gear, and one who is forever on their bloody phone. aside from that.. :) it's a method of keeping "connected"... plenty of meets, i go to a meet every week at least.. gone are the days of hanging around mcdonalds car parks for me really, rather go over to a friends house and chat about things that are more important to be honest.

To me "modding" as such is a young persons game and nowadays youngsters can barely afford to insure any car let alone a performance vehicle that's been modified, if your paying up to £2-3k a year to insure a standard 1.2 Corsa what the hell is the premium going to be if you whack and exhaust or some fancy alloys on it? By the time you grow old enough to insure a performance car you're too old to be thinking about sticking spoilers on it and painting it bright green.

Back in my youth petrol was 69p a litre and £20 would of lasted a night out including a taxi home.

Used to "cruise" and commute all week for £20 of petrol in my 1.2 nova then go out on a sat night and still have more than half of my wages left to mod the car with cool add ons from either halfords or out the back of max power (only geeks had internet back then)

In Aberdeen most of the cruising happened on the beach boulevard and had done for decades, a heap of posh flats were built right in the middle of that area and although all of this cruising went on for decades people still bought the flats then complained about the noise :rolleye:

The police had a major crack down on the "cruisers" and killed the scene up here.

It probably still does go on up here but nowhere near what it was like back in my day.

All the young lads at my work have nearly new cars. Bmws, Audi's galore, one of the 20 year olds has just bought a scirocco gt. All their money must go on having a nice flash car.

They all look upto my mk5 ed30 but I think my mk2 is better. They know nothing, those yoof's :signLOL:
