Mk5 boot pop mod will not work?!? Any one else had this?
« on: April 11, 2014, 06:19:39 pm »
Fitted the parts for the boot pop mod and coded in with VCDS and it worked fine for a couple of days but now seems to have lost its mojo?

They were all genuine parts fitted and I even tried a set of new poppers to no avail. I've adjusted the tailgate, lubricated the seals and latch but it refuses to work if I don't use it for a day or two.

Anybody come across this or had any issues of their own that can point me in the right direction? It's a sh*t hot-mod and such a shame it doesn't want to work.
2005 VW Bora TDI 130 Highline auto. Current mods: 5.5lt washer bottle & black and aluminium A/C knobs & 312mm front brakes and 256mm vented rear brakes.
Next: turborevs SMIC, 20vt pancake pipe and silicone connectors.

They are bad for that, some days the boot flys open, some days it just pops and stays down

Yeah it just seems a bit hit and miss. It's really annoying though as I'm modding the car to death but keep getting held back with piffy little crappy issues. I do all the work myself so I know it's been done right but when something fails or stops working it causes me some confusion.

Try exercising the strut up and down a few times then try to see if it flies open.

Also remember this is a mod that wasn't an option so we have to tolerate it being the way it is really.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

The same happens to me as well, especially in the cold. But as mentioned exercise the strut up and down, that should help.

Same here  loads of grease on strut pins and make sure you pop it before going public at tescos  :signLOL:
Warm weather helps but That's not going to happen too often

you might as well get used to it mate, cold day no chance, hot day works perfect. at least on a cold day you can still get your fingers just under the cracked edge and lift it up really easy.

also i've just discovered from a mk4 boot pop mod you can get a beetle latch that has a spring on it for about 12 quid, going to add this to my car to try it out.
