New car, few issues
« on: April 14, 2014, 03:35:55 pm »
Hi Chaps,

Just bought a new golf, for my sins i traded in the edition 30 for an R32....

Anyway, I have a few issues with the car i'd like to iron out asap.

1. The cruise control doesnt work, when i flick the switch on the light appears but it wont set a speed.

2. RNS510 has been retrofitted by a previous owner and firstly the FM radio signal is crap, AM is fine? Also the GPS ariel has been wired (badly) into the engine bay and stuck onto the metal which apparently turns the whole car into the ariel. But sometimes it thinks that im in germany and other times it thinks im in the next street along. Is there a way of resolving this?

3. Drivers side window is very slow to go up, is there a way of fixing this?

4. It only has midline and I miss highline, can this be retrofitted?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

best to get it scanned with VCDS for number 1

how many aerials plug into the 510 at the back as there should be 2, 1 fm only, 1 fm plus am so if am is ok fm should also be good unless your have other problems

try lubing up the glass runners with some spray on oil or wd40 see if it speeds up, if not you might need to change the motor unit etc

high line can be retro fitted yes, contact Eddie-NL as he has the software to do this

what year is it BTW
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

Thanks SI - I plan to take a look at the back of the RNS510 this week, so there is one for AM and one for FM?

It's a 55 plate, the ED30 was a 57 and I wouldnt usually go older in age, but it has less miles and in the cheaper tax band so I dont really care. Nothing a nice ''V6'' personalise plate wont hide :)

@ Cone Killer - If you want a faster car dont do it, if you want a more economical car dont do it. If your a man you'll do it  :scared: the only plus points are 4WD and the noise, the noise alone is enough for me.

This was the moment I owned both of them for a few glorious short minutes

And a shameless pic of the seats!

Not in a straight line, but it can take corners at 1 and a half times the speed of the edition and thats without the coilovers being setup correctly/geometry/ budget tyres.

Yeah I suppose mate. Does it not feel a bit slower due to weighing more?? Or does the better grip make up for it?

Sorry I probably confused you, depending on its OEM stereo before it got swapped it may have 1 lead or 2 leads, the am signal is sent down the same cable as an FM siganl.

So say fm1 and am down one lead
Fm2 down another

GPS completely separate

Btw you clearly have the best and fastest colour, you going to join R32oc as well?

From the bottom of my heart I honestly cant tell that it weighs any different mate. The grip is great fun!

Thanks mate, it's got a load of mods on there too, some I hate, some I love. the exhaust is probably a bit overkill and i'd like to remove mani and decat and go to just a miltek resonated cat back. It's mapped and rolling roaded at 280BHP. Coilovers, thicker anti role bars then he goes and ruins it with budget tyres! Go figure.

Already a member of R32 OC but I'd prefer to have ironed out a few niggles before presenting the car. Plus I know people on here and it's full of knowledge.

The sound alone makes me want to get an R32! But I do too much mileage and the running costs would kill me  :scared:
