Is it worth cleaning throttle body??
« on: April 16, 2014, 08:57:35 am »
Just wondered if its worth cleaning and messing about with with my throttle body,
Car randomly cuts out after starting or if i blast it down the motorway, then let off the revs it cuts out!!
This isnt all the time just random.
Also idles abit higher than it should but then sometimes it idles abit lower.
Had this on my clio 182 and cleaning the throttle bodie, fixed it.
I carnt really see where throttle bodie is on the gti,
Any other suggestions would be appreciated on what could be causing the issue

Cleaned the maf sensor twice with electrical cleaner,
Changed fuel filter,
Going to throw coil packs off 2012 gti on it today.

Remove the lower pipe and see if it is dirty !
If it's not broke, Mod it.....

If you car is a mk5 golf gti... It is on the very front of the engine, attached to the intake manifold... silver with a grey top to it...
If you remove the throttlebody pipe that is attached to your intercooler, use your camera and take a video to have a look, then get a nice clean white cloth and if it is dirty wipe up and around the throttlebody... that will tell you if you have dirt.

But what kind of problems is it you are having, any engine lights come on, anno what your saying in your first post, what is your cars spec?

Also have you got access to vagcom?

if not have a look in the vagcom list and see if anyone is close to give your car a scan...  :happy2:

Thanks for replys,

Warning light is on but due to brake pedel sensor, other than that no codes,
Not got vagcom, inno this will probably highlight more errors than my poop code reader!

Car is 2005 mk5 golf gti, supposed to be stage 2 apr, but not sure?? Has full milltek system. But other than that standard.
Will do the throttle bodie pipe tomorrow now, as ive just put it back together after checking airfilter and fitting coilpacks.
Getting new airfilter tomorrow.

Bit off topic but if my car is remapped, would running standard airfilter still be fine? Just as ive just checked and it seems to be a standard panel filter.
