Meguairs DA Microfiber system

Anyone had a try of the Meguiar's DA Microfibre correction system?

I have a few body parts in my garage for practising on and write keen to see how much correction can be done by a DA compared to Hex Logic pad.

Seems like a simpler system that's easy to use, clean up after etc and uses minimal product

Awesome stuff on the DA I use it at the moment but have only really done an enhancement with it but would recommend giving it a go. Really easy to use plus the spot pads are great for removing more random scratches.

First time using a DA or have you used foam pads and polishes previously?

It's OK. I have used it extensively over the last couple of years.

On anything other than hard German paint it's probably overkill.

Meguiars say it's a "DA Microfiber System" but it works with rotaries too... It's main use on a DA is to provide you with extra cutting power, something a DA normally struggles with.

If you've never used Microfibre pads before you will have a steep learning curve. They feel different to use, too much or too little product and the pad can easily become grabby (less of an issue on a DA though) and correction results will be very hit and miss.

You need to prime the pad properly and you end up using quite a lot of product compared to a regular foam pad. The backing plates are also very thin so you need to be aware of extra heat build up that may occur (Depends on the polishes you use)

Normally find I have to clean the pad out after 2 panels with soap and water, and then dry it, else it clogs up with product, which is annoying (you squeeze all the water out and then I spin up the machine with the pad on it and hold it against my hand and that gets it dry enough to use) and after every set you work (so basically each pass you do) you need to fluff the fibres up again use a stiff brush or your nails and make all the fibres pointy again.

There are also reported issues with some of the backing plates flying off, although I've been using the same MF pad for the last year and it's been fine so maybe they've fixed that.

Despite their "swirl free guaranteed" on most hard paint types you will need at least 2 sets per panel to get anything approaching high corrections (you will never be able to get perfection) 

I prefer the more consistent results with an orange or yellow hex logic pad... but as with anything it's a nice option to have when you need something heavier hitting. Been working on a few BMW's this week and without Microfibre & wool pads they'd still be looking pretty poor as the paint's just so damn hard.

Been using some Liquid elements MF pads and prefer them personally as the fibres are longer. They're £6 each online.

I used this previously. It was hard work but good. Just wished I'd spent more time and done more sets. I think i used 2-3 large pads for the whole car and a couple of spot pads. As above, pads are thin so I felt the vibrations more. I used a megs triple duty brush to clean/fluff the pads.

I pick up panels from the scap yard down the road.

I've found the limits of the Orange hex logic megs #105 on a BMW front wing and believe it or not an old escort bonnet.  

Is it worth it or required to finish off with a foam finishing pad and Polish?

IIRC I just refined with menzerna final finish.

It depends on the paint... if you hit the paint really hard it will hologram, that's only natural... depending on the paint types and how hard you had to polish originally you may need several refinement steps..

And again depending on the paint types will dictate what kind of refinement you need to do. I spent the last 2 days working on a E92 Coupe, 2-3 hits with Microfibre pads and Menzerna FG400 was required to get a decent improvement but nowhere near perfect. To refine that because the paint was so bloody hard I was using SF4000 on an orange pad which was giving a good result. I did try SF4000 on a white pad which needed a few bit more effect to achieve the same result.


If you use a really aggressive combination and then go straight to a really fine/jewelling combination then you're still going to have holograms this is where you need 2-3-4 steps to get a really good result.

So your not using the meguairs compound and finishing polishes with your microfibre pads then?

I have the Meguiars correction fluid but I use it with other products depending on the need.

For a novice just stick with the meguiards microfibre solution stuff.

I have used various megs polishes especially recently with Microfibre pads, they're all much of a muchness when it comes to the end result.
