mirror glass falling off
« on: April 19, 2014, 07:27:10 pm »
Anyone have their mirror glass come away from the panel like this?

looks like its just come away from the clips, phoned up vw and they wanted £56 for a new one  :scared: anyone know anywhere doing them cheaper?

decided a temp job with some hard core double sided tape may work instead

£7 for some double sided tape it best be a more permanent fix than I'm hoping for!

had this happen on my polo, replaced the whole thing (including plastic) from a 3rd party for about £10 IIRC. There's just a small wire to un-attach for the heated mirror.

Yup! My passenger went about 4 months ago. Managed to get a genuine replacement off eBay. My drivers side is now shaking like a good un so il be keeping another beady eye on the bay to replace. Especially as £56 for a replacement from VW  :surprised:

Isn't this down to leaving the heated mirror selected too long and melts the glue fixings??

Yeah my driver side mirror almost came off 2 months ago!  :surprised: Was driving on the motorway and had a glance at my wing mirror only to have a lovely view of blue skies instead! It was just barely hanging on so I had to slowly coast off the junction and stop at a nearby petrol station asking if they sell sellotape which bemused the shopkeeper at the time!

I think the adhesive must have worn off due to the heating properties of the wing mirror so I bonded it with Evo-Stik Serious Glue and had no problems since.

There is an option to turn them on and off?

Instead of leaving the switch on heated mirrors, turn it to L, R or O

Doesn't the heated element only work for 10 minutes before switching off?
