Heated seat retrofit... what a mare!!!! Any help? lol

I got the Kufatec loom from Alex and went about it today with the help of my mate.

along with other snippets of information that were about on various sites but nothing actually decent. Alex also sent me the Kufatec instructions which were basically what Jason rmh had already compliled.

Just to recap my configuration.

My car had fully electric drivers seat from the factory. Not heated.
Put in manual R32 buckets (from an S3 but same thing) that are heated with no electric adjustment.
My car is a MY2005/early 2006 but the loom was actually a MY2007+ loom apparently this is what Kufatec decided would be the right one.

The kufatec loom was crap being in German and having ALL grey wires with the colours "written" on them in German... despite what I read I found the loom did reach fine without having to cut or extend.


Firstly the guide, the pictures do not match the writing which was very confusing (especially regarding fuses). But we followed the writing/diagram below (as best we could)




What we did:

As I do not have electric lumbar support on the Recaros we ignored the 20am fuse circuit for the electric lumbar support, especially as it was already taken for the pre-existing loom I can only assume.

We wired to Fuse#37 (30a) power for heated seats
Switched live Fuse 8 (if 4 and 7 are already in use) was also in use already (all 3) so we used Fuse9 which was being fed off the same circuit as fuse 4,7 and 8 (verfied with multi-meter testing)
Ran the only left over wire from the Loom (that wouldn't fit into the anything in the fuse box) to CECM block/module C - pin 1. this was empty till we added the circuit.
(in the diagram this is c/1 on the cecm. I/2 we did nothing with as was not mentioned in the guide and L/2 would have been fuse#9)

Then we ran wiring to the newly installed heater control panel: As per the guide with my car having Climatronic full auto AC like any other GTI we ran blue (BLAU) to pin 10, blue/red (BLAU / ROT) to pin 11 and the remaining wire which had nothing written on it (we presumed it was grey) to pin 12.

Used VCDS to enable heated seats under 09-cent electrics

Tested operation and nothing - in VCDS measuring blocks heated seat were "inactive" and VCDS scan showed "Heated seat - open or short to ground".


Does anyone have any information that could help get this working?

Do your seats have a control module under each seat or just one under passenger seat?
That's what really determines which loom you should start with.
I'll try refresh my memory to try and help.

I can't remember to be honest.. I didn't notice anything under the drivers seat, so passenger seat only is possible?

They are the recaro buckets from a 2007 Audi S3 if that helps.

Alex gave all the information to Kufatec and apparently that is the loom supplied

Having the same issue as you. Fitted some heated leathers in to my car and worried about the wiring. Read mixed reviews regarding the Kufatec loom. After reading a few build threads the task in hand looks daunting.

Is there any garages or forum members anyone can recommend to take up this task. Im located in London but dont mind travelling for the job to be done.

He just stripped down my seats and added the heat pads then wired them in and now I have the good old heated bum

When I did it on my old car the CECM pin was not fully home, blocking it from activating.

Also, the instructions are for LHD so did you remember to swap over the wires into the control panel for the toggle switches? Won't stop it from working but the driver will use the passenger side switch and vice versa unless you swapped them.
So you may have been trying to operate the wrong seat possibly and if it was empty, it doesn't heat so much.

Put two fuses in.... 30am in #37 for the power for heated seats and fuse #9 for the switched (ignition) live (as 4 and 7 were in use) as per my OP.

we didn't swap over the control wires we just followed the guide i linked to at the top... would I need to swap around pins 10 and 11 on the back of the climatic control module then?

Both jairm and i were sitting in seats and there was no heating that we could tell, drivers side felt warm but we think that was psychological especially when using measuring blocks in VCDS said it was inactive and the error being given was "heated seats open or short to ground"

I can't recall pinouts exactly but if 10 and 11 are specified for sides, then they'll be the ones. I'd leave that until it is all sorted to be honest, one less variable for now.

Did you cut the plugs off and extend the Kufatec loom, or swap over the existing underseat looms and keep your Kufatec the way it came?

The seats on the mk5 get HOT... there should be no doubt that they are working

We did neither. As the Kufatec loom supplied reached both sides without the need for any extending.

I don't think there was any modules under the drivers seat, I didn't see anything anyway. I'll have a look at lunch.

It's not about reaching, it's on 07+ the control module is under the passenger side (which on LHD is drivers side), rather than one on each seat. Were both fat plugs on the Kufatec loom the exact same in regards to pinouts?

Us being RHD with the looms being LHD, we have to either chop off and swap the plugs (some wires then need extended) or swap the original seat plugs and keep the Kufatec as is.

If you don't have any control boxes under any seat then I am at a loss, it's not a standard mk5 retrofit then.

Okay mate. I'll look under the seats at lunch to see if I can spot any control boxes.

we were saying that on the passenger side the pin outs didn't seem to line up on the seat side of the plug vs the car side of the plug.

The guide shows a picture of the module under the seat.
I had to extend mine.
If the pins don't match it may be because you're fitting to the wrong side of the car?
Eg. Pins on passenger side may differ from drivers side.
As the loom is for LHD car, we have to swap over to use the other side, if that makes sense.

I'd re read the guide while checking your wiring, it will make sense.

Also we would be swapping the looms on the SEAT over rather than extending the wiring if that makes sense? The wiring is all ran under the carpets and that took many hours just to strip everything out to do it neatly so not going to be changing that unless absolutely necessary

That's the one.
Swapping the seat wiring is also doable, as long as the required wires reach to the fuse box on drivers side.

I'll re read your post and compare to my guide to see if anything stands out / needs checking.
