Sun roof not closing properly - help!
« on: April 22, 2014, 07:19:23 pm »
Does any one know how to reset the off position for a tilt and slide sunroof please?

It was working properly, then suddenly would not close when the rotary switch was turned to the centre off position.
At first it just opened and closed and tilted almost randomly, with each position of the switch - bit of a problem as it was starting to rain!
It would not close fully even when using 'global closing' from the key fob.
Eventually it closed with the switch in fully tilt position.

I've done a search on here and not found anything and a google search which seems to indicate that it can be done with some sequence of on off ......
It may be a dealer reset with VCDS I suppose, but hope not!

Thanks

Noticed this it may help it's for a Passat:-

How-To: Resetting Sunroof "0" Position
If your sunroof refuses to close fully when the potentiometer is in the "roof closed" position, this is what you need to do:
Take off the sunroof motor cover.
Get the sunroof as close to the fully closed position as possible, either by messing with the switch a bit or using the "emergency operation" hex key located on the back of the sunroof motor cover. If you're using the key and the sunroof seems a bit hard to move, try pushing the key in a bit further. The sunroof should then become much easier to move.
Detach the sunroof motor. It is held in place with three T25 screws. One of the screws is a bit hard to reach, so if your Torx bits aren't long enough, you might be able to get by with removing only two screws.
With the harness still attached to the motor, turn the ignition on. If you weren't able to remove one of the screws in step 3, tilt the motor a bit so that it is able to move about freely. Cycle the sunroof switch through the following positions: roof tilted, roof closed, roof opened, roof closed.
Keep the ignition on and re-attach the motor. The Bentley manual discourages from re-using the screws, but I didn't see a problem with it. The torque spec is 3.5 Nm.
Test the sunroof operation. Everything should now be back to normal.

If you happen to be swapping the motor on a properly-working sunroof, make sure that: the ignition is off, a door is open, and sunroof is in the closed position. Otherwise, you'll have to reset the motor using the steps above.

Well I seem to have sorted it - quite simply in the end.
As the roof had fully shut, though the rotary switch was not in the right place, I didn't have to do the full sequence from Doylebros.

Leave the switch where it is, use the Global Closing to check everything is shut.
Open the car and with the ignition off,  turn the rotary switch to the correct shut position.
Turn the ignition on, then off again.
Turn the ignition on and sequence through roof tilted, roof closed, roof open, roof closed.
   Turn ignition off.

If the roof stays open and has to be manually shut, you need to do the full operation.

Tilt and slide sunroofs seem to be a bit of a rarity but  in case anyone else gets a problem, try the above.

Send me an email to

doylebros@gmail.com

And I'll send you a picture from Elsawin on how to set/adjust the roof up. I've not got any of those types of accounts - photo bucket etc

Just to add my experience, might save someone some time... Mine malfunctioned when I pulled out the key whilst it was closing I think.
i have a 2006 Mk5 TSI (am I allowed here!!? ;0)
Nothing above worked for me.
The torx adjuster was under a little grille in front of the sunglasses holder. Not under the sunglasses holder.
It's very stiff, so mess around and get it nearly closed, using switch and key. Make sure the car is properly off and the switch is in the closed position. Adjust the torx until it's perfectly closed. I went for 1mm of glass above paintwork of roof. Then switch on the ignition. Voila!

Basically, you are manually adjusting the sun roof to match the switch position. Bon courage!
