The non-RDS Chinese versions (still OEM VW) are only £100

Aside from the lack of RDS are there any other downsides to the Chinese RCD510s?  The built-in USB looks handy.

Nope otherwise the same as the EU version, can't argue with them for value for money. Nice thread about them here - http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=393452

Thanks Mike but will need to get head unit first before getting Mdi.

I keep deliberating over this upgrade. I was all set with RCD/RNS510 but now worried about it getting nicked (car lives on street not garage) so wonder if aftermarket with detachable faceplate is way to go?

Any thoughts on security?

Cheers

It's a shame that thieves can spoil your wish list but I totally understand. How about this option ?
I have no experience of this and I simply stumbled upon this on my own journey of trying to defeat the opportunist.

I would also remove the serial number sticker from the unit as the unit can be unlocked easily via ebay with the serial number  :happy2:

Yeah maybe I'm being paranoid but then again some tw@t reversed into my car while parked and caused ALOT of damage.

How much roughly would RNS510 with VW Bluetooth kit add to resale price of 56 plate golf?

Also I'm guessing I would see anything near £400 to fit highline on resale?

Perhaps compromise is to hold out for secondhand RCD510...

Thanks V2 Fan. Yeah that looks heavy duty and would do the job! But I think maybe I'll go secondhand RCD route.

Good tip re sticker.

It is crap that the worry of thieving scum is affecting my decision making...

If buying an RCD510 through the post be very careful - I sold one on here and sent it with the CD changer transit lock on, when it got there (extremely well packed) the changer was gubbed.
So just keep that in mind and try collect it if you can.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Thanks mate. Yeah I would definitely like to buy local and see it working before handing over the cash. Guess this takes patience but not one of my virtues!
