New Thermostat Needed? | Solved
« on: April 28, 2014, 08:47:07 am »
Right guys, advice please :)

My car temp sits at 75º instead of the 90º that it should be. Would this be the thermostat?

It was on my ED30. If after 10 minutes of driving it is not at 90c & fluctuating when you stop/move off, then it is a safe bet.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

My issue here:http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,80793.0.html

Was fixed with a new thermostat  :happy2:

It's a pig of a job to do at home, your best going to a specialist.  Part is around £25 IIRC

Cool thanks guys. I thought as much. Does anyone have a part number for it, I read on that thread that it was a specific on for an Ed30, but mine is just a normal GTi.

The GTI has a different part number, think it ends F not H but have a look to confirm that.

06F 121 111 F

Does this look right to you? It's all I can find.

Yes for a GTI, or part number ending H not F for an ED30

The problem is that the gauge may be inaccurate, that is very cold for an engine temp. If the gauge is correct you may have a thermostat stuck in the open position. If this is indeed the case you had better change it as your engine mixture depends on proper engine temp.

The gauge IS inaccurate. Best doing the trick with the climate to see what the sensors are reading. 75 degrees on the gauge will be around 60ish degrees in the climate display

Should say I diagnosed mine off the Fiscon readings, the gauge first gets to 90c when it is about 75c

Okay, so how do I go about getting this to appear? I'm assuming it is on the climate control displays?

Perfect thank you! Using that and speaking to my mechanic on the phone, I do indeed need a new thermostat. Thanks everyone!
