What's needed for cam chain job?
« on: April 29, 2014, 07:54:51 pm »
I'm looking at changing my cam chain, I know il need the timing/locking tools but what do I need for the job itself?

Chain
Tensioner

What else? Any gaskets worth changing etc?

I'm needing this done and was recommended that I do the belt and water pump while it was getting done.

I don't know if your clued up and I know I ain't but if the chains rattling I'd get it done ASAP, the timing belt and water pump is at the other end of the engine and the cam chain is to the gearbox side in the cylinder head, I don't really see how the two are connected to the same job like how example when you change the belt you might aswell change the water pump at the same time as it's right there. But I don't see why you'd get the Cain done at the same time other than to save another trip the the garage, you won't save any money in labour  :happy2:

Sorry if you know all that already I'm not trying to be a know it all.

It seems to be very common on early models which I have. A lot of people seem to put up with it. Been told it's very unlikely to snap. Tbh my knowledge is pretty limited, just going on what I've been told. Was recommended to get the whole lot done at once. Was looking to just get the chain done
