Trusted Seller Status ??
« on: April 29, 2014, 10:40:22 pm »
Like every great forum they attract the undesirables that see it as a quick and easy way of scamming the very people that make it such a great place to share stories and trade parts.

With a Trusted Seller status this will encourage people to only deal with those that have achieved a set number of satisfactory sales, they could sponsor a fellow known forum colleague and they could benefit from a sponsored seller status. This will create a network of honest forum members that have to work hard to achieve this status of trust.

In the long run this will deter opportunists that post an abundance of irrelevant posts in order to fraudulently obtain money.

We are all human and by default we hate paying surcharges like PayPals 4% so invariably there will be some of us that get caught out! but the main aim is to deter those undesirables from stopping by in the first place.

Only a suggestion  :happy2:

Despite us very openly warning you against it..

I can't really think of a way that this can be done on the software we run. The new one may have it but i've been so busy with the day job lately i've not had a chance to look.
with the new rules about photographing items and what not along with paying via paypal in the proper method you are basically risk-free.

the trustworthy people on here are easy to tell apart.

Good idea in theory, but it all boils down to the fact you still need to apply the same precautions and go with gut feeling.

One forum I was on a few years back implemented a 'seller rating' system - after a few positives one guy listed a bunch of things then did a runner with the money.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

If anyone can fathom how we would implement this and vet people then we are all ears.

I would say the only people you can trust on here 100% are the traders and admin.  :innocent:

just my tuppence worth , how are you ever going to get trusted as people will avoid buying from people without "trusted Status" its a bit like buying of ebay from someone with no feed back, good idea in theory but the buyer needs to take care its not the forums job to look after you money,

one way you could get around this would be if a Trusted person (admin  for example) held the cash and only released it when the goods were received as described, not for all sales but only the odd one where both seller and buyer agree, but this could be a lot of hassle for the middle man/woman

Tis a good idea (the OP's) in theory but in practice?

Since the new regulations, I've not seen as many "I got scammed" messages. 5% fees are annoying, but a small premium that is effectively like insurance is worth it.

If its an expensive or rare item, going through eBay is the only way to protect yourself 100%. I would imaging if the forum setup a rating system based on business type transactions then some sort or addition fee and legal things would need to be paid.

Good idea, but an adapted version is to have an admin locked thread that lists scammers along with the rules so you can at least check someone isn't "blacklisted" as a bad seller.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!
