Are VW trying to cover up??
« on: May 02, 2014, 10:49:39 pm »
Hey everyone, this will be my first post and it is a pretty serious one!
About 2 weeks back my car developed a top end rattle when the car became warm.
Cutting a long story short it turned out to be a variable valve timer and housing.
This issue took around 2 weeks in VW to diagnose and fix.
After a hefty bill i left the garage and i managed to travel 7 miles towards my home where all of a sudden, bang, top end rattle and a sound i have never heard.
So you can imagine how f*cked off i was sat on the edge of the motorway waiting for a recovery truck.
I had waited 2 weeks. Paid £1400 and managed 7 miles.

Now it turns out my engine is ruined and the culprit was my oil pump not pushing oil to the top of the engine apparently.

Do you think VW should of checked my oil pressure during the diagnosing phase?

Also why has VW offered to change the engine over free of charge?
Are they covering themselves for something?

What do i do guys??.. I am seriously stuck.

Sorry mate I thought you meant they were giving you a free engine, you weren't clear on that bit mate

I would have thought they'd check oil pressure. pretty sure that the engine knocking can be due to not enough oil/pressure.

Catastrophic top end failure after vw have had it apart. Definitey don't pay them any more money, they should be sorting this for free. Did you snap a cambelt, top end seize?

I would speak to the person in charge of the garage (principal or top manager). State how you feel, that you want a refund of the work that was carried out (unsatisfactorily). Also you expect VW to rectify the problem they have caused, i.e. New engine, or replace all parts as necessary.

Thank you for all the replies Gents.
Appreciate it!
Come Tuesday I will be calling down to speak to the Main manager and explain what has happened.
The car ran fine before taking it in.. all of a sudden catastrophic engine failure.
Really frustrating as I don't have a bottom less pit of money to throw at it.
Thanks again, I'll keep you updated with what is happening.

I would read this and watch they don't try and blame this?

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,68442.0.html

They are good at covering their backs and this fault would cause that!

It's only my thoughts but these people always look to shift the blame!

Sounds to me like they've found the worn cam tensioner and never bothered to A. Find out why it failed or B. Where the debris has ended up - jammed in your oil feed pick up pipe and oil pump!
