SKY, HELP.
« on: May 03, 2014, 09:11:58 am »
Morning everyone.

Firstly please forgive my terminology I am no electrician

I have terrible reception through my aerial at home and as my property had a SKY dish in place when we moved in I thought I could simply buy a box and pull channels through the dish rather than the aerial itself which would also make my life easy when I get sky in the future, or so I thought.

Anyway after beginning what I assumed would be a 5 minute job installing the box I was soon presented with a whole heap of issues.

Firstly I couldn't find the feed from the dish and after pulling everything out and apart I later found them to be under a false floor in a cupboard which was fine until I noticed one of the feeds to be cut short and have no end or fitment on.

I am aware that it is possible to run sky+ with only a single feed but it means you are restricted to recording only one programme at a time and such like but being that I am mainly after improved signal I decided I would go with this for the time being but after plugging the one available feed In I am getting nothing, My TV does not even seem to detect that there is a anything plugged in to the HDMI port being used, I assumed I would get a blue screen even with no feeds plugged in?

I plan to change the coaxial feeds later this week, Will this simply solve my issue?

Can anyone help at all?
 :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

If you're getting nothing through HDMI then your issue is not with the dish. Forget the dish for now and concentrate on getting the GUI for the stb to be displayed on your TV. Try a different HD lead and socket on the TV.

I did exactly what you are trying to do when we bought our house, used sky dish with an ebay box to get freesat from sky.
as previous post, you need to get the sky set-up screen up, try an hdmi lead you know works, a cheap £1 ebay 1 didn't work on my tv as there are different versions of hdmi leads.
you will need a sky card for the sky box to work, freesat card £20.

Basically, firstly start with getting something on your TV. Your sky box will always be outputting a HDMI signal whether its connected to a dish or not!
GUI means graphical user interface, so concentrate on getting a picture from the sky box first via the HDMI cable!
