I really dont think you guys have anything to worry about. although it is sensational what happened, you would have seen a lot more of this happening by now his is a 08 motor.
Its just one of those unfortunate happenings. Probably a factory defect on one of the associated parts  :chicken:

Bent con rods are not Factory defective parts TC!!, that bent conrod is concerning, Metal fatique at such a early stage. Warranty claims wont except that at all.  Thats one hefty repair bill for the Customer unfortunatly. Thats a Re-bore and oversize Piston if its scored the cylinder wall aswell. Im guessing it was a Standard GTi with K04 conversion??

He said that he was in 1st then 2nd gear, I suspect there is more to it that that..

Some of the maps out there are running a sh*t load of ignition, this can bend rods without having to run massive power..

If your worried about your rods then its an easy fix, lots of options out there, all of them capable of supporting 500WHP+
