Rear GTI/R32 Brakes
« on: May 03, 2014, 09:49:12 am »
Here is a question for you all. Do the rear brakes on a GTI use the same caliper as the R32, just with a different carrier? In effect, could I just bolt R32 carriers to my stock GTI caliper, swap to bigger discs and pads, and retain the brake line and avoid bleeding?

Looking at piston sizes, in the rear calipers, it appears there's no difference, both use a 41mm piston so theory goes it's just the carriers, discs and pads? Someone's got to know this...

i could be massively wrong but.... i thing at the least its the carrier that will space it out as the R32 use vented disc the GTI are solid

That's what I mean, so swap to the larger carrier and thicker discs should fit.

I think the standard rear gti calipers have 38mm pistons. The caddy rear calipers have a 41mm piston

Really like to know this!!!

But the 310 disc is vented and thicker then 286 disc, how are you going to fot them in the caliper, it coulden't be so much space left...?! The pads are sitting in the caliper on each side of the disc and is there room for a thicker disc?!

Hi

The calipers are different as they have to fit over a 22mm disc in the case of the R32 caliper and only 10mm in the case of the GTI, the piston sizes are also different.

The answer has been given. End of thread. :-(
