Aircon compressor part number

Hi, I have just found out that my aircon compressor has broken great. :sad1:
The part number is 1k0820803L my question is do I have to get one with the exact part number or are there any compatible any help please?
(The car is 54 gti)

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, they are a poor design on the Mk5. You want a newer revision ideally so not exactly the same part. 1k0820803S onwards. See http://www.my-gti.com/1038/volkswagen-golf-gti-passat-jetta-and-eos-air-conditioner-compressor-failure

Hi, thanks for that does the compressor have to come off a gti or can it be any mk5 golf?

VW diagnosed my compressor as having died at few months ago.

Probably going to get it sorted now it's getting warmer again. In the mean time does anyone know if it is bad for the car to be using it with the compressor not working? I remember reading that the fans stop working when the compressor dies. If I wait any longer is it going to give me any problems?
