AKS DB9 BBK Advise
« on: May 05, 2014, 06:13:21 pm »
Afternoon guys, so with the help of some friends, today I fitted Alex's BBK to my scirocco R.

before:

After:

I needed to use a 5mm spacer (cheap halfords ones to get me home). This leaves me with about 1.3mm clearance from my alloy. (measured with slip gauge)

Few questions: Drivers side clearance is about 10mm, yet the passengers is only 1.3mm? is this normal?

I am looking at getting proper spacers, the forge ones:Here(5mm)

Should I get 5mm spacers? or 8mm?

Really lost here haha

Edit:

It appears as i rotate my alloy the clearance changes, the wheel with a fingers clearance when at another spoke goes down to 1.5mm clearance?

edit2:

I think I'm having one of those days... can't get my head around this haha. Could be the sh*tty spacers.

Essentially, is 1.3mm clearance enough in general?

Sounds like the wheel or disc isn't sitting flush with hub I wouldn't be driving it until you get it checked

my reckoning isn't the spacer mate, as from what i see the differences between the width of your finger and the first picture is more than 5 mm, so at a guess you've either got a buckled wheel or the wheel isn't on right, that's all i can see it being.

Rocco R's don't come with different offset front and rear do they?

Got one front and one rear on?

The alloys are genuine VW 19 inch.

Tyres are 235/35/19

I have checked, and both wheels are sitting flush.

I had my front switched with my rear about a week ago when i had new tyres, they would have mentioned about them not being possible to switch. So i think don't think the alloys are axle specific.

One of my friends will have a look at it in the morning. I don't know what else to say atm...

All wheels on a Roc R will have same offset.

Swapped mine round enough with APs on and never had an issue. Something isn't right on yours. Should be exactly the same on drivers side vs passenger side.

ET41 for the Rocco and ET51 for the Golf.
If you have to ask why, you'll never understand.

The forge spacers are not hubcentric, does this matter?

At speeds above 60mph i get huge vibration in my cabin. Im sure these cheap spacers are the cause.

Going out at lunch to have another look.

Any updates on this?

Sent him some hubcentric 8mm spacer today.  With longer bolts.

Gave him a firm telling off for using the stock bolts with the 5mm spacer!  :signLOL:

The offset is written on the inside of the wheel so check what it says.
