RCD510 - version/firmware?
« on: May 02, 2014, 06:09:13 pm »
Hi guys in my quest to upgrade my stereo I've come across HazzyDays who do refurbished RCD510 units for £350+VAT. I guess this is a little expensive given you can pick ones up for less than £200 but I suppose it gives you peace of mind and 12 month guarantee as well as fitting.

They say the software version is 0166 is this the latest version? Are there any particular versions I should be holding out for? Does anyone have a link to the history of the RCD510 with the various version history and features over the years?

I'm pretty clear on RNS510 getting Version C with star button but don't have any info on RCD510.

Appreciate any guidance as hoping to get this sorted once car out of garage.

Cheers

HOW MUCH!!

Not really any benefit in having the latest firmware as the newer versions do not introduce any additional features but i would still try and get the latest version. I'm going to be selling my mint RCD510 this week as i have recently upgraded to a DAB version :)

Had a look at the prices from the link :scared: :scared: I saved £1000 buying brand new from ebay with 12 months vw warranty
I have 3C8 035 195 H which is one of the later versions "A" being the early ones
Have a look for "vagparts-uk or turbo_herbie  Both accept offers  :happy2:

Thanks guys yeah I thought £350+VAT was very pricey! I just want a RCD510 which ideally comes with a decent warranty and which I can collect locally (near London).

Degudodger – where are you based? How much would you be looking for?

Thanks for the tip Sootpig. I’ll have a look on eBay. Any other recommended eBay sellers for refurbished RCD510s with warranty?

Cheers

Just out of interest, what is involved in refurbing an RCD510 - cleaning the touchscreen with a wipe?

Crazy money for a fairly basic headunit, that is RNS510 money or even decent aftermarket with way more integrated spec.

Beware of having an RCD510 posted, I sent one and the CD changer got damaged even with the transport lock on - try to collect.
They are going for £150-180ish and if you see it working before paying, is it really worth paying way more for a supposed warranty?
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Yeah, always worth driving to collect. Someone came from Manchester to buy my RNS this weekend (over 100 miles) and I spent half an hour with him in the kitchen showing him all the functions, making sure it was fully functional and did what he wanted, made sure everything was what he expected, and he paid me cash and took it away (I presume) very happy. I'm certainly confident that there's no comeback from the sale, unlike faulty ones which arrive through the post.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.
