Rim suggestion
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:56:37 am »
alright chaps,

after a second opinion if any of you could spare 5.

ive got a black 5 door mk5 gti thats recently had a set of bilstein B12s fitted. the drop hasnt been massive (about 20/25 mm) which i wasnt really bothered about, but the next thing i need to sort is the wheels.

originaly i was thinking a set of 19"s would look good (CH reps etc) but now ive had the work done, and with the drop not being huge, im worried it may end up looking tractor-tastic on 19s.

so basically i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what flavour wheels to go for. im not after anything to bling - but just open to sugestions really.

is anyone else running 19s on slightly less then satandard ride height and does it look good or pony? Any comments welcome!! :D

probably around the grand mark or just over.

if i was going to stick with 18s i can reuse my old tyres so that means that amount can go purely on wheels.

such as? give us some suggestions mate.

things ive thought of so far are

* porsche twists
* BBS VZ (genuine) in anthracite
* Bola B1 in gunmetal

suppose the sticking point is whether 19s are going to look gahey on near enough standard ride height.

I've just fitted some 18" BBS CH's to mine (not lowered yet) and I think they suit the car nicely (although I would say that haha) Like you I was only going to lower mine a bit probably no more that 40mm as I live in the countryside and the roads are crap so any further down and I wouldn't have a spine left after a few weeks.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Porsche twists, then again it depends what you're going for, the BBS (either set you've mentioned) will look quite OEM+ but the twists will make it look blatantly modified.

All 3 of those wheels are nice. Porsche twits are killer but to pull them off you have to be low - check
My mate build thread (arris) his look killer. Bbs ch's
Are always a winner, maybe bbs ck? Or try and be different as most people mistake them for pescaras.

im in the same boat where i live. if i was to drop the car any lower id end up p1ssing blood for a week if i went over a pothole or something. you go for genuine BBS CH or reps?

yeah thats what i was thinking with the twists - the only cars ive ever seen them on have been bagged etc so pulling them off with a 25mm drop isnt going to happen i dont think. just looking at BBS VZ atm haha

A 6 month old set of genuine BBS CH's with tyres came up for sale in my local town so I snapped them up.  Turns out it was the guy that owns a local garage and he even fitted them for me! So I got pretty lucky.

If your car doesn't look "Tractortastic" on 18" rims what makes you think it would on 19" rims?

My car has a drop of 25-30mm with the aid of H&R springs on 19" rims if that helps.

Keeping it original..............or not!!
