r32 style catback by Milltek sticks out?
« on: May 08, 2014, 06:15:43 pm »
hi guys/gals quick question regarding the r32 style catback by Milltek, after reading ive seen people say the exhaust tips stick out and do not sit flush with the lower part valance?

is this still true?

if yes by how much do they stick out by in cm/mm? thanks

I dont think it's the tips that stick out but the box the tips come out of, they seem to hang below the rear valance and can been seen from behind (unlike an R32).
Have a look at some pic's you wil see what I mean.

ahh right, do you think they'll be able to do this without the box? the box quietens the sound right? im interested in a non res, want it slightly louder than stock

Not sure who makes them without the box but you could do like I did and have it stove enamelled so it doesn't stand out so much.

Full non-res Milltek apart from the DPF delete which is from Darkside Developments.

I have this on my  mk5 GTI and yes, when you stand behind the car you can see the back box clearly below the rear valance. Not the ugliest of sights, but does annoy me it doesn't sit like a proper R32 rear.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

the milltek one? whats your opinion on the sound/performance? also had any issues with it ? guessing its more of a cosmetic thing but there is a slightly louder exhaust note?

With the way nige builds the exhausts, the back box is no where near the back so u don't see it :D

There'll be an R32 on there and you'll see what I mean about the back box being out the way

Haven't they sorted that website yet?! No wonder people go downmarket and pick the other make instead...

There's been no issues with it. As for sound, I got the louder option and it's still only just more noticeable than a stock system. My girlfriend has a Miltek but the normal GTI design and it's a bit louder than that.

If I were you I'd order a BCS exhaust, I reckon if I replace my down pipe and cat, I'll also have them make a full exhaust. Worth a few hours drive, the many cars I've seen with BCS fitted have been stunning craftsmanship.

It feels weird putting such a nice bit of kit underneath the car where I can't see it :(
