Wondering if the TPM works on just the front wheels or all 4?

the basic system on the golf works on all 4 wheels using the ABS sensors calculating the rolling circumference of the wheels.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

The oem tpms isn't very good, the tyre has to be practically flat for it to alert me.

I'm having this fitted;

http://www.national.co.uk/tyre-pressure-monitoring.aspx

I think I will be great for both daily use & really handy for trackday use

But I've found a seller on ebay that will do a decent price on an order of 2 or more.

Did RR have a similar kit and ran into issues (largely to do with aftercare)?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I know Neil P has one in his Mk6 Gti

To be honest, already the 1st national shop where useless. When I asked if I could look at one to see how I'd mount it their response was; "dunno what your talking about, we do anything like that. Your thinking of halfords".  Useless gits, I showed them the website on my phone.

If I can buy spare wires valve sensors from the ebay seller, I'm not sure what other issues I could come across. Neil rates it and it looked good but I'll ask Robin  :happy2:

....Yes, when it works it works very well indeed but I gave up on mine because it's so tricky trying to establish which sensor needs replacing and tyre shops can't be arsed to help. The product's aftersales support sucks!! In fact I ought to update my review accordingly.

The OEM tyre pressure monitor is a joke. :(

They claim 7yr battery life, that not the case Robin?  I read somewhere replacement sensors where around a fiver a corner.

Tyresure direct refused to help?  :sad1:

....That looks exactly the same that I have fitted.

The other downside is having to faff around with it when you change your tyres. I don't do DIY on my car (or home) - I'm no good at such things.

....No 7yr guarantees when I bought mine and considerably more cost to replace a sensor! That's how it was but hopefully it may have changed.

Quite apart from trackday use it's very reassuring indeed to be able to monitor your tyre pressures every time you drive and interesting to see how tyre status changes.

The OEM tyre pressure warning works fine on my car. Never had to run anywhere near flat to have a warning flag up. The only issue with the system is the wife (who drives the car most) simply looks at the light and ignores it. When I ask her why she was driving with a puncture when the warning light came on, she says something like "Oh is that what that light is. I thought it was only the oil light!"  :rolleye:
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

My OEM sensors work really well, so well it actually annoys me.

So far its gone of twice and the tyre was running a mere 2 psi under.

I was very impressed to say the least.
