Maybe he was told by the previous owner it was an ED30 ?
And now he's thinking I best pass it on

what do you mean pass it on? Pass the car on? or pass on that its an ED30?
If someone told him it was and he didnt know that much about the car, then I am not surprised that he believed it because it does look like an ED30!
I would think the majority of people buying an Ed30 would know the car or at least be able to identify the lack of darkened rear clusters , non standard wheels, mudguards (potentially) and the all important 230 on the V5.
If you wasn't an enthusiast or particularly interested in an Ed30 then why would you pay a premium over a standard Gti ?
To me he seems to know a little about the car even listing it as a 230. But to own and not realise then that's asking a little too much

I wouldn't like to call him dishonest but would you really make this sort of mistake ?
