For those of us who spend lots of time on the forum we will see these threads come up and make a mental note of the username of the perp.

What about for those people who miss these threads and unwittingly handover some money thinking because they are on the forum then they must be OK to buy from?

If there was a specific area on the forum,  it gives people chance to redeem themselves and get the full story out. The mods can than take a decision whether to ban them or not. The mods can then delete the thread if it turns out to be a massive misunderstanding??

At least all these types are posts are in one place rather than in the Mk5 General area. . . lets face it, its not easy to search for these sort of threads to help prevent getting scammed?

Just a suggestion. . . .  :drinking:

Distance selling is fraught with dangers on both sides.

As a buyer: Pay with Paypal gift and you might never see the goods you paid for, and won't see your money back. Pay with bank transfer, and the same applies. If goods do turn up and they're damaged then you get stuck with the argument that "It was fine when I sent it!", or the silent treatment.

As a seller: Someone pays with Paypal with fees paid, and you send the goods. The buyer receives the goods and raises a Paypal claim for his money back using any of the possible "excuses" and Paypal side with the buyer for a partial refund or whatever. Or the case is won for a full refund and the buyer sends back a different item which they've exchanged for the good one they got through the post.

Or the other clever one is to buy something and pay for it with Paypal with fees paid, then agree to go and collect. Once collected the buyer claims that the goods haven't been sent, the seller can't provide tracking details or proof of posting, and Paypal give the buyer their money back.

By far and away the best way to buy and sell is to meet face to face and pay cash.

Having a forum section with an up to date list of scammers and bad sellers/buyers won't stop the bad people stealing from the stupid people.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

By which point people have always twigged on and will automatically assume the accused is guilty.

I will chat it over with Rich and Alex... Edition has a classified disputes area.

I dont think we need a specific "name and shame" or "disputes section.

Just a thought Rich - what about all these disputes that were never resolved in the thread. If anyone searches for Pikey Motorsports, there's a pretty harsh thread out there. Pretty sure there is one for big Al too.

A separate section means they wouldn't get lost among the "Which DV" and the "Urgent help needed" daily threads for future reference .  It also helps mods to control these conversations and they can easily be updated as they get resolved or someone gets banned. Might help deter potential scammers too if there is a maintained section about this sort of thing. Where users on other forums have been scamming, the user name can be identified in this section in case they appear on this forum.

Anyway, I'm not going to push this any harder. Up to you guys  :innocent:

As said we've not had to deal with much of this so I don't see the need.

if we get a pm we will investigate. naming and shaming is not always the best way especially if the one being "named" is actually innocent or the situation is misunderstood. we will help out where we can but we are not in a position to be able to actively help get someones money back or an item delivered etc.

Ultimately the for sale section, as with ebay, gumtree and other owners forums, is to be used at your own risk.
