Just re-lloking at that video, the Ed30 is a manual, I bet it would have been even closer if it was DSG......

Anyway not wanting to re-open a can of worms, Im off............

A DSG ED30 would have swapped the positions

My good friend has a GT3 RS and I can confirm that yes..

I got SLAGGED off on ASN once for daring to say that the S3 kept up with my mates GT3 RS until I posted a video.. Then it was all.. 'The RS driver was half throttle' "He can't drive' etc etc etc..

The point is that the GT3 RS is a fast car yeah, but it can be beaten (in a straight line) by a 20k 3 door hatch with £1500 of mods lol..

not really the case with modern diesels with twin turbos like the 335d.......
not petrol but way better than even a few yrs ago

I've owned a mapped 335d, very fast, boring has fcuk and yes it does pull very hard all the way to 5000 rpm.

I can imagine they are, good at straight line but numb and heavy? Why i would have to have petrol to keep some fun!

id challenge any car nut to call a 335d boring.

dont get me wrong, i wouldnt call a 335i boring either.

My mate has a brand spanking new 335d and a DMS remap. He hasn't had it on the rollers, but it is fairly fast once up and running. Off the line it is a little slow, but that torque push feels huuuuuge. Side by side from 40mph to XXX it isn't as fast as a silver ED30

Don't expect any vids though

Guy I know of other forums has a 335d and were always bickering over cars lol but when I was at the pod with him his mapped 335d was doing 13's dead all day long on a slow day. His best is 12.6 iirc.

I dont mean the difference in weight, the power delivery in a diesel can be boring (depending on the map)

have you driven the twin turbo diesels? there really great for that mate. honest, there not like what you expect from a traditional diesel.

i know you hate diesel, but i would at least recomend a drive in one

JPC have you actually spent a lot of time in the 335D, and I don't mean a couple of days, those that have will understand where I am coming from.

I owned mine for 8 months or so, did 10,000 miles in it, and when I first got it, it was the best thing since sliced bread.  Mine was running an Emaps map to 350BHP, eibach suspecion and standard non-RFT tyres, so was fully set up for involvement.

BUT, and it a big BUT, because it was so easy to get 100% of the performance out of it, that and the so called flappy paddle gearbox, which was nothing more than a standard slushbox with paddles, was just so uninvolving, after a while it just got boring.  It was as fast as my 'old' B7 RS4, however you had to work at getting the performance out of the RS, whereas in the 335D, it was simply just point and squirt.  A lot of the 'old' 335D drivers on e90post, have all moved on for this reason, just too easy to get all of the performance out of it.  I drive a car to be rewarded back by getting the best out of it, and the 335D was just so easy to get to that point, so I felt I had conquered it very early on in my ownership.

So yes I feel very justified in calling it boring and uninvolving.
