First GTI worth remapping?
« on: May 14, 2014, 10:31:31 am »
Hi everyone, im new to this forum and have just purchased my first GTI mk5  :driver:
Through reading reviews and posts over countless forums just like this ive noticed a trend in people discussing their mk5s being mapped...
Is this worth doing as im looking for the best possible performance but without jeoprodising my cars reliability.

Also ive spoken to many dealers and cannot seem to fathom why there is such a huge price difference between companies for the same stage 1 remap??
Revo are asking for £499 for a stage 1 where as my local garage (motormodsuk) are asking £249. when i asked the question i found that the guys there didnt know the reason behind this!

Any help would be much appreciated  :notworthy:

I don't think it will be the same map.

i would go to R-tech or performance torque.. both are around £300.

i wouldn't get a remap from a random garage

I haven't mapped my KO3 GTI but did have a mapped ed30 which I changed from stock to performance via the Revo SPS switch for comparison and it was night & day. I'd assume a normal GTI would be much the same.

I think company's like Revo and APR charge so much as they are well established so people assume they must be better than other smaller companie, which they can be but not always. I've heard many good reviews about R-Tech, this is where I'll be going to map my GTI

There's also many high Milage cars running stage 1 or 2+ Maps and still run well. As long as u service regular and do preventative maintenance all should be good

I would have a Revo map for £500 if it came with the SPS box.

It's not worth it otherwise.

Had a Revo stage 1 for 40K now.  Engines still fine at 95K.  Map was £600 with VAT and the SPS was £180   :stupid:.  Yes I paid it but regret it.

Would I do it again, yes but with R-tech  :happy2:

I have a REVO map on Stage 2+

Only thing I regret is not being able to control the fast pedal so the petrol bill has risen  :P

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! Is there any reason why i shouldnt take the car to a local garage though?
I will more than likely go to R-tech otherwise

Re mapping the GTI won't be the same as an ED30 , by a long way .

If you have only just got it i would use it for a few months before deciding , I wouldn't do it on a GTI .

You will hardly use the 200hp on offer from stock on the road anyway , why spend more money and get more power that you'll hardly use on the road , unless you're illegal all day  :innocent:

sorry - are you saying if you had a GTi you would not remap it but would only remap a ED30?

Don't know what you mean , my last car had the remap on it for about 2 days , sold with it on it (Bluefin)  . I used the car very little and never needed 300hp , so didn't have it on . I only got the bluefin to see what others were raving about on here . :innocent:
