J Hook discs
« on: May 17, 2014, 12:38:05 pm »
My thanks to Dave B for the 312mm J hook discs that I finally fitted as part of the service to my stage2+ ed30 yesterday.

My brief has always been to retain as much of the o/e look as possible for a stage2+ ed30, so I wanted to optimise the original brake set up without resorting to bigger discs/calipers (it's a personal thing) particularly as my car is never going to see a track day.

My calipers were previously painted by More that just Wheels 3 years ago and I'm pleased to say they look just as good as the day they were fitted.
I was already running DS2500 pads on the rear so adding the same flavour of pads up front plus j hooks and fresh motul fluid balanced things up.

It's still early days in terms of mileage since fitting (90 miles and counting) but apart from looking extremely pretty the improvement over standard discs/ferodo performance pads is astonishing. Unlike other reviews I'd seen there is no discernible zipping noise from the discs when the brakes are applied. The feel from the brakes is better than standard at any pressure and of course the huge increase in bite seems to make the car stop on its nose every time.
I have no doubt a car with larger calipers might improve things further but for me this set up is highly recommended.

What front calipers are you using? Stock or uprated?
Without traction power is nothing!

Did you buy the J hooked one's directly from Dave or did you send a plain set to him?
