High idle
« on: April 11, 2014, 12:13:47 pm »
Noticed this earlier in the week. Set off from home, reached a junction and waited. Whilst waiting I noticed the idle speed was around 1250rpm. Normally it's around 800rpm within a few seconds of ignition. This is now a persistent issue. Not noticed any change in power but the car feels rougher when turning off the ignition - it almost feels like I've stalled the car.

Will run VCDS this weekend and gonna go see Alex next week but would be good to prepared.

Any thoughts?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

PCV valve on the front of the cam cover can cause this.

I would just like to clarify that there is no such thing as a PVC valve, stupid autocorrect.

Ran vcds and got the following:

001287 - Idle Control System RPM
P0507-001-Higher than Expected.

Yup replacing the PCV solved the problem. After replacing, on first ignition, it seemed to hesitate but was fine on second and subsequent attempts.
